Getting Ready

Ages 4-6 (1 hour class)

An introduction to realistic drawing geared to the attention span and motor coordination of the 4 to 6-year olds. Children learn to recognize the five basic elements of shape and combine them in drawing animals, still life and characters.

Media: marker and pastel


Basic Drawing

Ages 7 to 9 (1.5 hour class)

This class is an introduction to Representational Drawing that is geared towards the attention span of a 7 to 9-year old child.
This class teaches the indepdendent recognition of the elements of shape and how they can be used to draw the images in the visual world. A variety of choices of how to interpret details and backgrounds is provided.
Step-by-step instructions include 2-dimensional images and 3-dimensional objects for the main subject of a lesson.
This class encourages individual creativity. Projects are based on creatures from nature and objects from around the world.

Media: marker, watercolor, and pastel


Drawing Fundamentals

Ages 10 and Up (1.5 hour class)

This class is an introduction to Representational Drawing and geared towards the attention span of child 10 years or older. The guided lessons follow a progression towards the goal of independent drawing skills.
Projects include 2-dimensional images and 3-dimensional objects.
This class will also introduce the student to the Fine Art Skills of a) Proportion; b) Perspective; c) Shading and light logic (with various media), and d) Understanding of proportions of the human form.

Media: graphite pencil, chalk pastel, oil pastel, marker, colored pencil, and watercolor


Intermediate Drawing

Ages 10 and Up (1.5 hour class)

This is a class for students who have mastered:
- The ability to achieve basic 3-dimensionality, using light logic;
- The confidence to choose various media with a particular project;
- The skill to achieve basic proportion and perspective;
- The consistent pattern of staying focused and quiet for a 1 1/2 hour class;
- The consistent ability to put a high degree of effort into their work.
Projects will introduce more complex components and details.
This class includes an introduction to abstract and expressionistic styles of drawing. The student will also be introduced to working from live models.
Students are challenged to create projects independently. Students will be encouraged to have supplies at home to finish complex projects.

Advanced Drawing

Ages 10 and Up (1.5 hour class)

This is a class for students who have mastered:
- The ability to independently achieve 3-dimensionality, using light logic;
- The confidence to choose various media with a high degree of skill level;
- The skill to consistenly achieve accurate proportion and perspective;
- The consistent pattern of staying focused and quiet for a 1 1/2 hour class;
- The consistent ability to put a high degree of effort into their work;
- The discipline to work at home and finish some of the more complex projects.
This class will challenge students to independently choose various styles of drawing for the interpretation of a project. Students will be encouraged to choose projects of interest to bring to class and work independently.

Basic Drawing for Teens & Adults

Ages 13 and up (2 hour class)

This is a class that accommodates terrified beginners up to intermediate drawers with a 1-hour lab time for independent finish up of work.
Individual instruction is given for many levels of confidence.
The project development is geared towards student interests.
The goal of this class is to introduce all types of materials and styles of drawing. This class will provide inspiration and exposure towards exploring new ideas and challenging projects.

Media: All drawing media and basic watercolor supplied
Materials to be Purchased: Watercolor, acrylic paints, brushes, and canvas.


Acrylic/Watercolor Painting

Ages 8 and up (2 hour class)

This is a class for students who have mastered basic drawing.
Both media, acrylic and watercolor, will be mastered.
All materials will be provided.
You can work independently or join the class in whatever project we tackle.

Media: watercolor, acrylic paint, brushes, boards, watercolor paper, and canvas.
